Keeping Fresh Food in the Neighborhood

Elementary school students at Vision Preparatory Charter School in Memphis are actively protesting the decision to close the Kroger grocery store in South Memphis.  With the closing of the store, this will create an undue burden on the neighborhood forcing them to purchase sub-par food from a discount grocery store instead of purchasing high-quality food from Kroger.

“We did that because we wanted to keep the Kroger open for the people who don’t have cars,” said Amiaya Davis, another third-grader at Vision Preparatory Charter School. “They may have to walk four or five miles to the next Kroger or ride the bus and they’re going to have to spend their dollars to go there, spending extra money.”
