For the Love of this Country?

Memphis Chalkbeat reporter, Laura Faith Kebede, was educated near the town of Charlottesville, VA.  In light of last weekend’s rally and counter-protest, Kebede shares her educational story and how today’s students must be better educated fully and accurately about the history of this country.

“It’s no accident that white supremacists chose the site of a Confederate monument to amplify their racial hatred. For them, the statue is a symbol of white superiority over African Americans, who were enslaved in this country until the middle of the Civil War.”
